Day 1 of Maternity Leave...
Dear 2Hians
How's life without me on the first day? Veena mentioned on the tagboard that she can't believe I've gone on maternity. Time flies.. Soon I'm be back. So how was your EL Common Test today. Hopefully it was managable for you .
For day 1 of my maternity.... playing the waiting game of the birth is really ...as you say "SIAN". It can be really boring. So.. I'm marking your compositions.. and will get someone to deliver them to you when I finish.
I'll try to update the class blog with my news regularly.. and hopefully you guys and ladies will do so too.
Thank for the well wishes that your class made... read all your wishes. As for my wishes, I have 2. First, have a healthy beautiful baby girl. 2nd, have all of you work hard and do well this year.

Situational Writing
Dear 1H-ians,
I heard that you are doing well in class. Hopefully you understand all that is taught. It meant that my instructions were clear to the teacher and she taught you well.
Any problems with understanding what is taught please post on Cbox and I will address it on blog.
* Remember the tone, audience and purpose that I taught you before in class. It comes in handy in answering situational writing qn.
Always highlight the key phrases, words & are on what the qn is trying to ask.
Eg. For your EL Hmwork Write a letter to your friend, telling him about the sandwich making competition. Tell him the reason for the competition, where and when it took place. Describe the proceeding s of the competion, how it ended and your feelings about it.
Key things : 1) Letter Format 2) Audience : A friend 3) What to write : Reason, Venue & Time, What happened on the day, Feelings
From this you can gather you are telling your friend about something that happened in the past.. so your tone of the letter should be informal and casual and the body of the writing is like a personal recount.
Remember to use more adjectives and adverbs (words and phrases)to make your letter more lively, similar to a personal recount.

Some words after a term...
My dear 1H-ians
Congratulations on doing well for this Term 1. You have been all working hard and coping well with your sec 1 subjects.
Some of you have to put a little more effort in producing quality work. Do focus and not be distracted. There will be a lot of distracters during your secondary school years... (A lot is definitely an understatement). You need to learn to cope and stay clear of them. In addition, I'm confident that you know what is the responsible way of doing things.
Some of the feedback given by teachers so far.. (this is to help you to improve in both studies and your personal development) - Must be consistent and aware of what is going on. Some of you are "blur as sotong" and very extremely careless - Need to face challenges bravely. Do not whine like the world is coming to an end. (Like I mentioned there will be much greater challenges you will face as you are growing up) - Work... need to produce quality work (means that putting effort in doing work), we teachers do not want sloppy work.. it only shows that you do not care about your studies... sloppy work = little learning. - Be attentive during class. I know you love to talk to your classmates. but try to control, they will be there after lessons to lend a listening ear. There is an appropriate time for everything.
