thank yichyi for helping (2D)
and dun blame the person who forgot to give out the geog notes.

Thank you. (:

ms goh only gave notes for global warming, duno why also, 2G also said that Unit 33 not tested

Global warming= increase in the average temperature of the earth’s surface
Enhanced Greenhouse effect: greenhouse gases increase in the atmosphere -> excessive heat energy absorbed by the atmosphere

CAUSES

Increase in agriculture activities:
-Deforestation
-Methane released when plant rot
-Nitrogen-based fertilizers used thus releasing Nitrogen Oxide

Increase in Motor Vehicles:

-Nitrogen Oxide from exhaust pipes

Increase in the use of product containing Chlorofluorocarbon(CFCs)

CONSEQUENCES(EFFECTS)

Climate Change and series of effects:

Extreme weather events:

Cooler regions became warmer -> boost agriculture productivity
Multiplication of pests -> widespread diseases
Frequent flooding and heat waves
Endangering animals as temperature changes as they cannot adapt

Rising Sea levels:
Floods in low-land areas
Contamination of flesh water
Reduced food supplies as arable land submerged

RESPONSES

International co-operation/ Agreements:
-Kyoto Protocol 2005(countries targets to reduce greenhouse gases emission; however not all countries signed)

Using Clean energy:
Alternative energies that emit less carbon dioxide than fossil fuels
-Clean energies: Hydro-electric, geothermal, solar, wind, nuclear, biogas, waves & tides & ocean thermal energy
-Renewable= can be replaced
-Impose taxes on industries which emit Greenhouse gases beyond acceptable levels
-Incentives given to those successfully conserve energy

Individual efforts to conserve energy:
-Use energy-efficient appliances and switch off when not in use
- Use public transport
-Walk or cycle
-Spread message of the impacts of global warming and ways to curb it
-Participate in community projects
